1.6.3 The potential or planned follow-up (new initiatives that were generated by the project in each of the countries involved)

In both countries most of the project activities continue even if some are developed on a smaller scale than previously.

Romania:

Planned follow-up:

Environmental education activities will continue to be organised in Mastacani and not only, either by ECCG team or by the School No.3 Mastacani. Financiation for these activities is ensured by the Ministries of Environment and Foreign Affairs Luxembourg and the World Bank program for rural schools. Several events are already planned for May- August 2006: celebrating the World Environment Day, Danube Day, monitoring the water quality and a study-trip on the Prut River from Galati to Mastacani and on Vlascuta Lake.

The networking activities are integrated within ECCG program as Danube Environmental Forum National Point. This program includes:

organising workshops for NGOs:– May, 27, 2006 Sighet – DEF workshop on water management &biodiversity;

Participating in national meetings regarding the implementation of the Water Framework Directive;

Participating in the Prut- Basin Committee meetings;

Contributing with articles to the DEF Bulletin, translating it into Romanian and insuring its printing and distribution.

The development of the ECCG web-page is being supported for 2006-2007 also from the co-financiation provided by the Ministries of Environment and Foreign Affairs Luxembourg. The financiation from Luxembourg also supports a part of the ECCG involvement in providing counselling for the rural communities that develop plans and project proposals aiming to reduce the water pollution and/or to improve the waste management in rural communities.

A station for composting the organic wastes will be build in Tg. Bujor (city located in the Prut Basin, 85 km north form Galati) with financiation from Phare 2004 Economic and Social Cohesion Programme - “Small-scale Waste Management Investment Scheme (Extended phase) - Call for proposals 2006.

Potential follow-up:

Mastacani commune together with ECCG is working on finalising the design and the project proposal for improving the waste management and infrastructure. Two proposals that complement each other are being developed:

“PRO APE” is focussing more on the promotion of Best Agricultural Practices and building a small-scale demonstratives  composting platform – to be submitted to UNDP/SGP financing program for International Waters;

“RE – SORT” is focussing on the establishment of a proper waste management system for Mastacani commune and other 2 neighbouring communes Foltesti and Fartanesti that are very close.

Moldova Republic:

Planned follow-up:

The youth initiative group formed during the PBWA project will look after the buffer area and hey intend to register as an NGO. MEM will support them in this direction.

The NGOs members of the “Alinace for the Clean Prut” launched several projects such as :

“Clean village-clean Prut river” - Izvorul Cristalin AO;

“Protection Tree Planting” - Cucoara OO;

Larga  spring reconstruction” – Nicolida Nord NGO;

Danube Day CelebratioLeova Ecological Movement;

“Free-flowing clean rivers” NGOs Ecosistem and Biom;

“Entering Europe with a clean Prut river” Cutezatorul NGO

Piretus European river” EMM youth branch Ungheni.

Potential follow-up: in fall 2006 EMM plans to propose a project in partnership with Baurci  Moldoveni School, project that will be submitted to REC Moldova  financing program entitled “Save our Small Rivers”.

Cross-border follow-up: The communes Beresti-Meria, Baneasa (RO) and Baurci Moldoveni (MD) developed a project proposal for establishing a training center for farmers and organising related training courses. The project was submitted to PHARE Cross-border Cooperation 2004. ECCG provided counselling in the early stages of the developing the project proposal.
