Project: BLUE DANUBE

  BACKGROUND
The 2000-2002 provided ECCG the framework for developing a much complex, more efficient EE programme, its main focus laying on the water conservation and water protection issues.
The 2003- 2004 overall objectives were:
• • •
To promote awareness on the river ecosystem assets and environmental problems, the main target group - students and teachers
• • •
To develop one EE workshop with the educators -target group, and to provide them the tools to integrate the water- related issues in their curricula
• • •
To continue assisting the NGOs active in the Danube River Basin Management issues to become more efficient in approaching the educational matters (DEF member organizations, too).
• • •
To organize trips along the Danube and within the Galati town limits so as to mix fun and training altogether.
• • •
To promote local and national pride about the " Danube River Ownership" See Danube Day

Follow up: Connection was maintained with the Ramsar Bureau for the Wetlands Day 2004, the theme announced is "From the Mountains to the Sea - Wetlands at Work for Us". This will allow us to stay focussed on the Danube wetlands and consider how these wetlands work for the benefit both at national and local levels, and to consider how to manage these wetlands so that they continue to deliver these benefits.
The World Water Day, March 22
The World Water Day, March 22 - a traditional activity for the ECCG within the last few years. Presentations about the ECCG-led EE outdoor pontoon activity plans were done within all the events ECCG participated to, and also to the visitors from Austria, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Ukraine, The Netherlands and Italy.

Note: The contact was established thanks to the co-operation with Global 2000, from Austria Within the DEF framework, a three - country project proposal for CORE grants was submitted for funding to European environmental organisations.
The applicants are DEF members, the National Focal Points from Romania (ECCG), Slovakia and Bulgaria. Its title is "Environmental Education Programme for the Danube Delta"
